James Braid Designed Golf Courses

James Braid (1870-1950) was a Scottish five-time Open Champion golfer and a prolific golf course architect. He transitioned from a successful playing career to become one of the most influential figures in golf course design during the Golden Age. Braid is credited with designing or remodelling over 400 courses throughout the United Kingdom, including iconic layouts like Carnoustie (remodelled), Gleneagles (King's and Queen's courses), and numerous classic inland courses. His design principles often focused on strategic bunkering, incorporating natural features, and creating challenging yet fair tests of golf that stood the test of time.
