Berkhamsted Golf Club, situated in Hertfordshire, England, is a historic heathland course with a unique character. Established in 1890, the club's origins trace back to a nine-hole layout designed by Willie Park Jr. Harry Colt later expanded the course to 18 holes, and James Braid significantly redesigned several holes in 1926, shaping the course that largely remains today. One of Berkhamsted's most notable features is the complete absence of man-made bunkers; instead, natural contours, gorse, heather, and the ancient Grim's Dyke earthwork provide the course's defenses. The course is set on common land within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering a truly natural golfing experience. While not overly long at around 6,600 yards from the back tees, the course is considered a strong test of golf, demanding accuracy and guile. The club has a strong amateur golf tradition and has long hosted the prestigious Berkhamsted Trophy, a world-ranking amateur event that has seen many notable players compete. Berkhamsted is recognized as one of England's top 100 golf courses.
