Royal Blackheath Golf Club (The )

Royal Blackheath Golf Club, located in Eltham, London, holds the distinction of being the oldest golf club in England, with a history dating back to 1608. The club moved to its current parkland site, originally laid out by Tom Dunn in 1892, in 1923. The course was significantly altered by James Braid in 1929 and has seen further refinements over the years, including a multi-year renovation project completed in 2020 under the direction of Ken Moodie (Ken Moody). The course is known for the strength of its opening and closing holes. The club's rich history is evident throughout, and its clubhouse, the magnificent 17th-century Eltham Lodge, adds to the sense of tradition. While not a regular venue for Open Championship Final Qualifying, Royal Blackheath has hosted Regional Open Qualifying events in the past.
