Mid Herts Golf Club (Mid-Herts)

Nestled in the Hertfordshire countryside, Mid Herts Golf Club is a historic heathland course that offers a classic golfing experience. Founded in 1892 with an initial 9-hole layout by Charles Thom, the course was later extended to 18 holes in 1923 under the guidance of five-time Open Champion James Braid. The course features rippled fairways, fescue grasses, and fast greens protected by traditional grassy hollows, presenting a true test for golfers. While not a championship length course at just over 6,000 yards, it demands strategic play. The club acquired additional land in the 1960s, allowing for further modifications and a practice area, resulting in the layout played today. Horace Rawlins, the club's first groundsman/professional, went on to win the inaugural U.S. Open Championship in 1895. The club has a rich history, having been established on common land with the permission of the Lords of the Manor and later purchasing the manorial rights.
