Woodbridge Golf Club (Heath Course)

Woodbridge Golf Club, situated on Bromeswell Heath in Suffolk, England, offers a classic heathland golfing experience with a history dating back to 1893. The club was founded through the efforts of Major J.E.W. Howey, who initially laid out six holes on his property before enlisting the help of famous North Berwick professional Davie Grant to find suitable land on the heath. The Heath course, originally designed by Grant, was later modified by the renowned architect James Braid in the late 1920s, and this layout has largely remained true. More recently, architect Martin Hawtree has overseen enhancements to the bunkers. The course is known for its sandy, quick-draining conditions, allowing for year-round play. It features well-separated fairways lined with heather, gorse, oak, and pine, with each hole presenting a distinct challenge. While not exceptionally long at around 6,300 yards from the medal tees, the course demands accuracy and strategic play to navigate its hazards, particularly the well-placed bunkers and the challenging back nine. Woodbridge has a tradition of hosting county tournaments and has previously been used as a venue for Regional Qualifying for The Open Championship.
