St Austell Golf Club
Parkland/Heathland Course in St Austell, England
St. Austell Golf Club, established in 1911 in Cornwall, England, is a parkland/heathland course with a rich history. Initially a 14-hole layout by 1913, it expanded to a full 18 holes in 1914. Five-time Open Champion James Braid was consulted in 1925, and his significant design changes, particularly to the southern part of the course incorporating natural hazards, were implemented by 1936 or 1937. Further alterations in the late 1970s added five new holes and increased the course length to just over 6000 yards. The course is known for its undulating terrain and offers a test for golfers of varying abilities with greens often guarded by bunkers and mature trees influencing play. While not consistently an Open Qualifying venue, the club has a history of hosting Open Competitions and county championships, including the Cornwall County Championships in 2011.
