Perched in the picturesque Shropshire Hills, Church Stretton Golf Club, established in 1898, stands as the oldest 18-hole course in the county and one of the highest in England. The course's history is intertwined with some of golf's most celebrated figures, with the original layout by Jack Morris (J. Morris) and James Hepburn later refined by the legendary James Braid and Harry Vardon. While not long by modern standards at just over 5,000 yards, this par 66 inland links-style course presents a compelling test of golf. Its upland setting provides stunning panoramic views, though navigating the undulating terrain and tricky greens requires precision and thoughtful course management. The sandy soil ensures excellent drainage, allowing for year-round play on firm, links-like turf.
