Ipswich Golf Club (Purdis Heath)

Ipswich Golf Club, home to the Purdis Heath course, is a venerable institution with a history stretching back to 1895. While the club initially played on nearby Rushmere Heath, it relocated to its present heathland haven at Purdis Heath in 1926. The course itself, a James Braid design, was officially opened in 1928. Purdis Heath presents a classic heathland test, characterised by rolling terrain, strategic bunkering, and areas of gorse and heather. The layout cleverly uses the natural contours of the land, with the outward nine looping inside and the inward nine wrapping around, ensuring varying wind directions challenge golfers throughout the round. The course is rightly regarded as one of the finest in England, consistently featuring in national rankings.
