Bramhall Golf Club
Parkland Course in Stockport, England
Bramhall Golf Club, founded in 1905, is a parkland course located south of Manchester. Initially a 9-hole layout on local farmland, the course was extended and redesigned with input from notable figures in golf course architecture. Alex Herd, the 1902 Open Champion, was involved in the design of the original 18-hole course. Dr. Alister MacKenzie, a well-known architect, later supervised improvements, and further modifications were made in 1934 following advice from James Braid. The course today largely reflects the layout finalised over a century ago. The greens have been relaid to USGA standards. While not one of the most famous courses in the UK, it is regarded as a good test of golf in Cheshire and has hosted county and regional fixtures, including the European Ladies Matchplay Championship. Although not a regular Open Qualifying location, a professional from Bramhall Park Golf Club reached the final qualifying stage of The Open on two occasions.
