Heathland/Forest Course in Thetford, England
Thetford Golf Club, established in 1912, is a classic heathland and forest course located in Norfolk, England. Originally designed by Charles Mayo with later input from James Braid and Philip MacKenzie Ross, the course has evolved over time, with five new holes added in the 1980s by Cameron Sinclair and Donald Steel due to the construction of a bypass. The course is known for its sandy soil, which provides excellent drainage and allows for year-round play. It winds through pine, oak, and birch trees, with heather, gorse, and broom adding to its character. The club is set within the Breckland Forest and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to various wildlife, including muntjac deer. The course is a challenging par 72, playing to over 6,800 yards from the back tees. While not consistently ranked in the top 100 courses in England, it is considered one of the finest in East Anglia. Thetford Golf Club has previously hosted Regional Open Qualifying events.
