Saltburn-by-the-Sea Golf Club (Saltburn)

Parkland Course in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, England

Saltburn-by-the-Sea Golf Club, founded in 1894, is situated on Hob Hill, offering panoramic views of the coastline and the North York Moors. The club was established at its current location in 1896, initially as a 9-hole course on land that was formerly an ironstone mine. The course was extended to 18 holes after the First World War, with the work completed by 1924 based on a report by the esteemed golf course architect James Braid. While not long by modern standards, the course presents a fair challenge with a blend of contouring and elevation changes. The layout is somewhat undulating and can be quite hilly in places, with some particularly tricky par 3s. The front nine has been described as having a links-like feel with humps, hollows, and some blind shots, while the back nine is more open and flatter. The club has a history rooted in its local community, with figures like Harold Kemball dominating local golf and Ryder Cup player Brian Waites serving as the club professional in the 1960s. There is no indication that Saltburn-by-the-Sea Golf Club has been used as an Open Qualifying location.
