Castle Eden Golf Club
Parkland Course in Hartlepool, England
Castle Eden Golf Club, originally established as The Dene Golf Club shortly after the First World War by employees of the local brewery, has a history rooted in community golf. The initial layout of six holes was designed by O.L. Rowntree, later expanded to nine by the renowned Sir Henry Cotton. Cotton returned to design the current 18-hole parkland course, set alongside the picturesque Castle Eden Dene. The course is characterized by its tree-lined fairways, with the 17th hole noted as a signature par three. The club opened for public membership in the early 1920s. While the club provides a good test of parkland golf in County Durham, it is not recognized as a regular venue for Open Championship Qualifying, although a player from Castle Eden did participate in Regional Qualifying in 2023.
