Yelverton Golf Club (Main Course)

Yelverton Golf Club, situated on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, England, is a delightful moorland course with outstanding views across the moor and into Cornwall. The club was founded in 1904 with a 9-hole course, expanded to 18 holes before World War One, and then re-established after the war. The current layout, which opened in 1920, was primarily designed by Herbert Fowler, known for his work at courses like Walton Heath and Royal North Devon. James Braid later made alterations to the closing holes between 1934 and 1936. The course uniquely incorporates natural hazards such as old mine workings and the historic Devonport Leat, an 18th-century watercourse, adding dramatic features to the holes. The course is set across both sides of the A386, with the first hole located separately from the main course. Yelverton is recognised as one of the best courses in Devon and is ranked in the top 100 golf courses in England. While not a historical Open Qualifying venue, it has hosted other notable amateur championships, including the EGU Men's Senior Amateur Championships in 2006 and the Devon Golf Men's and Ladies' Amateur Championships in 2023. The course is a par 71 with a white tee yardage of just over 6,300 yards, offering a challenging yet fair test of golf amidst tranquil surroundings.
