Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club, often referred to as S&A, is a renowned championship links course located on the North West coastline of England. The club was established in 1906, with the current course layout largely attributed to the esteemed architect James Braid, whose work dates from 1925. Set amongst exhilarating dunes and tangly heather, the course presents a classic links challenge with undulating fairways, strategic bunkering, and the ever-present coastal wind. S&A has a rich history of hosting prestigious events, notably the Ryder Cup in both 1933 and 1937. It has also been a venue for events such as the British Ladies' Open and the British Amateur Championship. Furthermore, the club has regularly served as a Final Qualifying course for The Open Championship, solidifying its standing as a significant test of golf. The course features many memorable holes, including the famous par-5 16th, known as 'Gumbleys'. Consistently ranked among the top courses in England and Great Britain & Ireland, a round here offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience walking in the footsteps of many of the game's greats.
