Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club, situated on the Norfolk/Suffolk border in England's picturesque Waveney Valley, offers a traditional heathland golf experience. Founded in 1889, the club's course was originally a 9-hole layout designed by Willie Fernie. James Braid, the five-time Open Champion, later remodelled the course in 1901, expanding it to 18 holes. The course is known for its gently rising and falling terrain, occasional ravines, and greens set in interesting positions, providing a test of accuracy. Despite not being overly long at around 6,000 yards, the layout, with several challenging par fours and only one par five, requires strategic play. The natural sandy soil ensures the course is well-drained and playable year-round. The club has been recognised by England Golf for its innovative graded membership system aimed at younger players. While it hasn't hosted The Open Qualifying, the club is an active venue for various amateur open competitions, including junior events.
