John Henry Taylor (J.H. Taylor) was a pivotal figure in early 20th-century golf, renowned both as a five-time Open Championship winner and a significant golf course architect. Part of the 'Great Triumvirate' with Harry Vardon and James Braid, Taylor's architectural philosophy favoured designs that worked with the land's natural features, incorporating strategic bunkering and creating challenging yet fair courses. He designed or collaborated on hundreds of courses, including prominent ones like Royal Birkdale, Saunton East, and Aldeburgh, leaving an enduring legacy on course design principles across the UK and beyond.
