Piltdown Golf Club

Piltdown Golf Club, established in 1904, is a historic heathland course located in East Sussex, England. Known for its traditional layout and tranquil setting, a distinctive characteristic of Piltdown is the absence of bunkers. Instead, natural features such as heather, gorse, and undulating terrain provide the course's challenge. The course was initially laid out by Jack Rowe, with later input from five-time Open Champion John Henry Taylor. G.M. Dodd also redesigned the course in 1927, and Frank Pennink described it as a "natural, bunkerless course." More recently, landscape architect Philip Russell-Vick has overseen the restoration of heathland characteristics and tree removal. The course, measuring just over 6,000 yards from the back tees with a par of 68, features narrow fairways, small greens, and challenging natural hazards. Piltdown has been selected as an Open Championship Regional Qualifying venue.
