Guildford Golf Club ( Golf Club Course)

Established in 1886 on the picturesque Merrow Downs, Guildford Golf Club holds the distinction of being the oldest golf club in Surrey. The course, set on typical Surrey chalk downs bordered by attractive woodlands, offers a challenging yet enjoyable round with undulating terrain, natural hazards, and fast greens. Originally a six-hole layout, it was expanded to eighteen holes and later saw improvements by John Henry Taylor and Fred G. Hawtree in the mid-1920s. Howard Howard Swan also carried out modifications in the 1990s. The par 69 course measures 6,160 yards from the white tees and provides stunning panoramic views of Guildford and the surrounding countryside, including glimpses of Guildford Cathedral, the Wembley Arch, and Canary Wharf on a clear day. While not among the most highly ranked courses, its historical significance and engaging layout across rolling slopes reminiscent of early inland courses make it a notable play in the region. Guildford Golf Club has previously been a Local Final Qualifying venue for The Open Championship.
