York Golf Club (The Course)
Lowland Heathland Course in York, England
York Golf Club, established in 1890, is one of Yorkshire's longest-standing clubs. Originally located on the Knavesmire, the course moved to its current Strensall location in 1904. The lowland heath style course was designed by five-time Open Champion John Henry Taylor. It offers a serene blend of parkland and heathland characteristics with mature tree-lined fairways. The course is known for its exceptional greens and provides a fair test for golfers of all abilities. A notable hole is the signature 7th, a par 3 over water, and the closing stretch of 16, 17, and 18 are particularly memorable and challenging. The club has invested in significant course improvements, including reshaping bunkers and adding new tees. While York Golf Club itself does not appear to have been an Open Qualifying location, other courses in York, Pennsylvania, have hosted U.S. Open Local Qualifying.
