Littlehampton Golf Club

Nestled along the West Sussex coast, Littlehampton Golf Club, established in 1889, holds the distinction of being the oldest golf club in West Sussex and the county's only true links course. Originally a nine-hole layout, it was extended to 18 holes in 1894. The course has seen the influence of notable architects such as John Henry Taylor and F.G. Hawtree, who were called upon to remodel the course prior to 1926, making significant changes to the routing and reconstructing several greens. More recently, Tom Alister MacKenzie has consulted on the links. Situated by the mouth of the River Arun where it meets the English Channel, the course offers a mix of genuine links holes with firm, sandy playing surfaces near the sea, and holes further inland with slightly softer conditions. The course is predominantly flat and easy to walk, featuring well-bunkered fairways and true greens. At just over 6200 yards from the back tees, the par-70 course includes an unusual five par 3s and three par 5s. The course is known for its challenging coastal winds that ensure no two rounds are the same, and its greens are particularly well-regarded. While not consistently an Open Qualifying venue, the club's former Head Professional has competed in Open Final Qualifying.
