Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club (J.H. Taylor Course)

Nestled within the historic Old Deer Park in Richmond, England, the Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club boasts two engaging 18-hole layouts, both originally shaped by the legendary John Henry Taylor. Established in 1892, the club has a rich history, gaining its 'Royal' status by command of King George V in 1932. Taylor, a key figure in the Great Triumvirate, became the club professional in 1899 and was instrumental in developing the courses, notably introducing the distinctive humps and hollows that add character to the otherwise flat terrain. The longer of the two courses, the J.H. Taylor Course, is a parkland test that has hosted numerous prestigious events throughout its history, including the News of the World Matchplay Championship, the PGA Championship, and the Ladies' British Matchplay Championships. While not a current Open Qualifying venue, its historical significance and challenging design, featuring tree-lined fairways and strategic bunkering, make it a notable course in the region. The club has also previously hosted Regional Qualifying for The Open Championship.
