Hawtree and John Henry Taylor, the course has largely retained its original character. Playing just over 6,000 yards from the back tees with a par of 71, it presents a good test of precision, with undulating fairways and well-guarded, often small, greens. While not overly long by modern standards, the course's layout demands thoughtful shot-making to score well. Chigwell has hosted open events and served as a venue for professional and corporate tournaments.
