Sonning Golf Club
Parkland Course in Reading, England
Sonning Golf Club, located in Berkshire, England, is a historic club with a course designed by the esteemed John Henry Taylor, one of the 'Great Triumvirate', with later refinements by Harry Colt. Opened in 1914, the course was originally laid out on heathland but has matured into a parkland style with an abundance of trees. While the course measures 6,329 yards with a par of 70, the elevation changes mean it often plays longer than its stated yardage. Martin Hawtree also contributed to the course with a redesign of the 18th hole. The club has a notable history with figures like Abe Mitchell, the first professional and Samuel Ryder's personal instructor, and Max Faulkner, Open Champion in 1951, who was an assistant professional here. The club has been used as a venue for Open Championship Regional Qualifying.
