Tom Simpson was a leading English golf course architect of the early 20th century's "Golden Age." He was renowned for his strategic design principles, emphasizing the use of natural topography with minimal earthmoving to create challenging and engaging courses. Simpson collaborated with figures like Herbert Fowler and Charles Alison and contributed to the design or modification of many notable courses, including Cruden Bay, Royal Aberdeen, Royal St. George's, and significant revisions at Muirfield and Ballybunion (Old Course). His influential ideas were also published in works such as "The Architectural Side of Golf."
