Rye Golf Club (Old)

Rye Golf Club's Old Course, established in 1894 with Harry Colt designing the permanent layout in 1895, is a quintessential English links experience steeped in history. Colt's inaugural design work is evident in the strategic and natural flow of the course across the dunesland of the East Sussex coast. While later alterations by Tom Simpson and Guy Campbell (Sir Guy Campbell) have refined the layout, the core challenge and character remain true to its origins. Rye is renowned for its demanding Par 68, featuring a collection of formidable Par 4s and notably challenging Par 3s, where finding the putting surface with the tee shot is paramount. The undulating fairways and ever-present coastal wind ensure a stern test of ball striking and creativity. As a highly-regarded links course, consistently ranked among the best in England and the UK, a round here offers a glimpse into the traditions of the game. While not a qualifier for The Open Championship itself, Rye does host a Cadet Open which serves as a qualifier for The Daily Telegraph Junior Golf Championship.
