The club's origins date back to 1895, taking its name from cottages built decades earlier by a family with strong ties to the British colony of New Zealand. Originally laid out by Samuel Mure Fergusson, the course was later refined by the notable architect Tom Simpson in the late 1920s, with further restoration work carried out by Frank Pont more recently.
