Parkland/Downland Course in Marlborough, England
Established in 1888, Marlborough Golf Club offers a golfing experience steeped in history on the edge of the historic market town. The course presents a tale of two halves, beginning with a parkland-style front nine characterized by tree-lined fairways. The round then transitions to a classic downland layout for the back nine, featuring firmer turf and expansive views across the Wiltshire countryside. This unique blend provides a varied and engaging test of golf that has been refined over the years, with notable architects like Tom Simpson and Herbert Fowler contributing to the design in the early 20th century, followed by J Hamilton Stutt adding the second nine in the 1970s. The course is built on well-drained downland, allowing for play throughout the year. While not a frequent Open Championship venue, Marlborough has hosted significant amateur events, including a Brabazon Trophy Southern Qualifier in 2024.
