Our Strategy
Take less club off the tee and prioritise position over distance. Aim for the middle of greens, even when the pin looks tempting, and stay below the hole whenever possible. Lag putting is key here - don’t chase holing everything, just avoid three-putts and accept that par is always a good score. Patience beats bravery on this course every time.
Review
The Hunting Course is a funny one. On the surface it doesn’t look brutal. Resort golf, wide fairways, decent sight lines. But if you switch off - even slightly - it can quietly run away from you.
This was Ryder Cup weekend, and the course felt perfect for it. It doesn’t need tricks. It just waits for you to make small mistakes and then makes you pay for them. I felt like I played reasonably well for long stretches, but the scorecard tells a different story.
The greens were the real problem. I had 38 putts, and a lot of the damage came from short ones that I really should be taking. Get on the wrong tier and you’re suddenly trying to cosy it up just to avoid three-putting. Miss a five-footer and the pressure builds quickly.
It’s the kind of round where you never feel miles off, but the numbers keep creeping up. A few blow-up holes did the damage, especially on the back nine, and before you know it the card looks uglier than the golf felt.
Brilliant Ryder Cup course. Tough, fair, and mentally draining in the best way. You come off knowing exactly where it got you wrong.
