Our Strategy

Don't be fooled by the length of the course, as the wind and natural terrain makes this more complex that it initially looks, particularly the opening 4 holes. These are some of the toughest on the course and all run parallel to the ocean. Get to hole 5 with your original ball and your going to have a good day.

Elsewhere on the course an errant shot can easily result in a triple or quad being made, making every hole an opportunity for dramatic shifts in momentum. This is especially true of the closing 16/17/18th holes, which seem specifically designed to decide the outcome of a Ryder Cup style competition all in view of the clubhouse patio.

Review

Kilspindie Golf Course, with its classic links conditions, is enjoyable & well-suited for match-play. The course features firm &fast-running fairways, deep strategically placed bunkers, & undulating greens that require conviction & precision with almost every shot.

The variety of holes, with a mix of drivable par 4s, demanding par 3s & a par 5 that plays like a par 6 or 7 in the wind, ensures that every aspect of a golfer’s game is tested.

Must Know Tips

  • 1
Hole 3 (par 4) - Blind tee shot with Aberlady bay becoming to the right. Don't feel bad about bailing out left. Its very playable, you'll just be hitting out of the fescue... and you'll still have your ball.
  • 2
Hole 9 (par 4) - Reminiscent of the Old Course Road hole, unlike that one though don't take on the corner.
  • 3
ole 18 (par 4) – Drivable par 4 to finish but be sure to get your yardage right, or else you may find yourself OOB on Craigielaw's course or playing into someone’s lunch in the clubhouse directly off the green.

Signature Holes

1

Hole 1

The opening hole is one of the best in Scottish golf. A short par 3 to the water that looks simple but is devilish due to a well protected green & prevailing wind & elevation to all consider.

4

Hole 4

Ranks as index 1 because of its fantastic green site. An infinity green that jots out of the bay with water all around & nowhere to miss.

8

Hole 8

Devilish par 3 hitting across the bay usually into a fighting crosswind. Either work a fade into the wind or aim out to the beach & hope you judged everything correctly.
