Our Strategy

Mature trees, strategic bunkering, and elevated tees deliver challenge with elegance. The course is very playable but never passive, as soon as you take a hole for granted it will come back to bit you with hazards waiting where you can't see them off the tee and wind capturing your ball as soon as it escapes the shelter of the trees. Aim away from trouble and then aim further that way, and you might just get the ball to find a safety.

Review

The Earl of Mar course, is a championship parkland layout framed by mature trees and rolling fairways, it offers challenge without intimidation. Each hole feels distinct, from the risk-reward drive on the 3rd beneath the Erskine Bridge to the picture-perfect 14th that requires strategic plotting on the banks of the River Clyde. The course rewards strategy and precision, with slick greens and smart bunkering that test without punishing. It’s a round that feels satisfying for every level of golfer: scenic, fair, and beautifully kept.

Must Know Tips

  • 1
Hole 4 (par 4) - Longer hitters may have a risk-reward opportunity to drive the green from the tee. If you can split the trees protecting the dogleg left fairway
  • 2
Hole 14 (par 4) - You’ll want to hit the big club to get full advantage on the downhill par 4 but work our your yardages carefully to short and you’re in the bunkers too long and you’re in the bushes.
  • 3
Hole 16 (par 4) - A lay up short or a 250 draw over large scaling bunkers is required all before an approach to a long but narrow green which feels like it is being approached from the wrong side. Choose wisely.

Signature Holes

3

Hole 3

Dogleg par 4 which runs alongside and under the Erskine Bridge. It is a challenging but interesting second shot to a green located at the foot of a hill.

14

Hole 14

Downhill par 4 requiring a precision approach shot to a narrow green protected by bunkers and mounds. This hole askes you to know a lot about and to trust your game.

16

Hole 16

Relatively short dogleg par 4 but with some tricky features and massive bunkers. This is a make or break hole for any match-play round.
