Our Strategy

The course's natural defences (thick gorse-lined roughs, pot bunkers, and tricky run-offs) make it a true test of golfing ability, where accuracy and strategy are key. The greens are typically fast and true, requiring players to have excellent touch and strong short game if they hope to hold the greens. The stretch of holes from 10-14 is some of the hardest on the course and run alongside Kilspindie, these holes are true links golf testing your management of the conditions.

Review

Craigielaw’s championship course delivers a modern links test built for match play thanks to a layout that encourages risk-reward decisions, where players must weigh the benefits of aggressive play against the potential for costly mistakes. These challenges and historic charm combined with its intimate setting on Aberlady bay, make it an ideal venue for dramatic and memorable matches.

Must Know Tips

  • 1
Hole 8 (Par 3) - Back left is your friend. Short left and you have a steep up and down, go too long and your OOB on Kilspindie's 17th.
  • 2
Hole 12 (Par 4) - This is not a go for it hole. There's an unseen pond right and OOB waiting for any left leaking shot.
  • 3
Hole 18 (Par 5) - OOB runs the full length of the hole to the left. But don't think this means right is your friend. The nastiest bunker in all of the golf coast is waiting for you if you miss the green right.

Signature Holes

9

Hole 9

Leads back to the lodge and is peppered with pot bunkers and a long narrow multi-tiered green. This is a key match-play hole where strategy is just as good as courage and confidence in a lasered shot.

1

Hole 1

It's a tricky hole that requires careful placement off the tee, despite being almost drivable. This is thanks to numerous bunkers that protect the fairway and undulated multi-tiered green.

6

Hole 6

What looks like a straightforward par 3 is made tricky thanks to the wind off the bay and OOB wall running the length of the hole.
