Perched high on the Purbeck Hills in Dorset, the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club, established in 1892, offers a heathland golfing experience with truly spectacular views over Poole Harbour and beyond. The club's history includes ownership by the famous children's author Enid Blyton and her husband, who oversaw an expansion to 27 holes. While the course has seen modifications over the years, with notable contributions from J Hamilton Stutt and more recently Tim Lobb, there is also a persistent rumour of early involvement from renowned architect Harry Colt. The Purbeck Course, the premier 18-hole layout, is known for its undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes, demanding a strategic approach to score well. The fifth hole, in particular, is celebrated for its breathtaking panorama. Although not consistently ranked among the absolute elite, the Purbeck Course has been included in Golf World's list of the top 100 courses in Great Britain, and its natural beauty within a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest provides a unique and memorable round.
