Willingdon Golf Club, founded in 1898, is set in the beautiful South Downs near Eastbourne, Sussex. Originally a simple 9-hole layout, it was redesigned by John Henry Taylor in 1905 to a more traditional 18 holes. In 1925, Dr. Alister MacKenzie was commissioned to expand the layout and incorporate the natural features of the land, and his course, largely unchanged, is what is played today. MacKenzie's influence is evident in the two-tier greens on several holes. The parkland course stretches over 6,212 yards with a par of 69, featuring tight fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and fast, undulating greens. The signature 13th hole is a notable par-3 with an elevated tee playing over a natural hazard. While not a regular Open Qualifying location, the club has hosted significant amateur events such as the SCLGA Championship & Langridge Salver.
