Saunton Golf Club (West Course)

Saunton Golf Club, located on the North Devon coast, is home to two highly-regarded links courses, including the West Course. Established in 1897, the club's second course, the West, was originally designed by Herbert Fowler in the mid-1930s but its development was interrupted by WWII when the land was used for military training. The West Course was later redesigned by Frank Pennink and reopened in the 1970s, with Donald Steel relaying the greens in the late 1980s. While slightly shorter than its sibling, the East Course, the West Course presents a notable test of golf, featuring undulating terrain set amongst the dunes, strategic bunkering, cross-ditches, grassy mounds, and raised greens that demand a subtle and strategic approach. The course has played host to numerous amateur championships, including the English Amateur Championship and the Boys Amateur Championship.
