Saunton Golf Club (East Course)

Saunton Golf Club, situated in Devon, England, is home to two highly-regarded links courses. The East Course, often considered the premier course, was originally established in 1897 and later redesigned by the notable architect Herbert Fowler in 1919. Fowler, known for his work at Walton Heath and The Berkshire, is credited with creating a challenging links test through the rugged sand dunes of Braunton Burrows. The course layout is characterised by numerous tough par-4s, many stretching over 400 yards and requiring carries over dunes and heavy rough. The course has a history of hosting significant amateur events, including the English Amateur in 1937 and the R&A Boys Amateur in 2019. While not an Open Championship venue, Saunton's East Course has been recognised among the top courses in England.
