Gathurst Golf Club, situated near Wigan in Greater Manchester, England, traces its origins back to 1913 when four local gentlemen decided to establish a golf club. Initially a modest 9-hole layout with short holes, it opened for play just five days after the inaugural meeting. The club acquired its first custom-designed clubhouse in 1927. A significant change occurred with the arrival of the M6 motorway in 1959, which bisected the course and necessitated a re-plan and the construction of a new clubhouse on the current site. The course was later extended to 18 holes, formally opening in 1995. The parkland course, known for its rolling fairways and tree-lined holes, presents a blend of technical challenges and natural beauty in the picturesque Douglas Valley. While not a widely known championship venue, it offers an enjoyable round for golfers of varying abilities.
