Whitburn Golf Club, situated between South Shields and Sunderland in England, offers a challenging yet enjoyable coastal golf experience. Founded in 1931 and with a course laid out in 1934 by J Morrison of Colt, Alister MacKenzie and Morrison, the club has a rich history. While primarily considered parkland, the closing holes reveal a distinct links feel as they run alongside the dramatic North Sea cliffs, providing panoramic views of the coastline. The course is known for its superb, fast greens and benefits from excellent drainage due to its natural limestone base. Although not among the UK's top-ranked courses, it presents a good test with strategically placed bunkers and undulating greens, and has recently undergone significant bunker renovation and course redesign by architect Jonathan Gaunt. Whitburn Golf Club is a welcoming club for both members and visitors.
