The Berkshire Golf Club (Blue Course)

The Berkshire Golf Club, situated on heathland leased from the Crown Estate in Ascot, England, is home to two highly-regarded courses designed by Herbert Fowler, both opening in 1928. The Blue Course, while sometimes overshadowed by its sibling, offers a delightful and subtly challenging round. It is characterized by undulating terrain and is considered slightly tighter from the tee than the Red. The course opens with a particularly demanding par 3 played across a valley of heather. The front nine provides some scoring opportunities with a couple of par fives and shorter par fours, but the back nine, featuring a hazardous par five and a tough closing stretch of five par fours (three over 400 yards), proves a stern test. The par-4 16th, a long dog-leg, is a notable hole. The Berkshire has a history of hosting significant amateur events, including the Berkshire Trophy and the English Amateur Championship, and was a venue for final qualifying for the Senior British Open Championship in 2009.
