Richmond Park Golf Course, situated in the expansive and historic Richmond Park in London, is a public golf facility offering two 18-hole courses: the Prince's and the Duke's. The Duke's course, the focus here, was opened in 1925, two years after the Prince's, and was inaugurated by the then Duke of York, later King George VI. Both courses were originally designed by Fred Hawtree, with his grandson Martin Hawtree overseeing a modernisation programme in the 1980s. The Duke's course is the longer of the two, playing to a par of 71. It is situated on the lower, flatter part of the estate and incorporates a number of water hazards, including the park's ancient brook. Regarded by many as the 'championship course' due to its length and challenging nature, the Duke's course features many similarities to the original 1923 design. A significant £3 million improvement programme managed by Glendale Golf was completed in 2014, enhancing both courses and adding new facilities.
