Prince's Golf Club (Himalayas / Shore)

Links Course in Sandwich, England

Prince's Golf Club, located in Sandwich, Kent, is a historic links course with 27 holes, comprising the Shore, Dunes, and Himalayas nines. Established in 1906 and financed by Sir Harry Mallaby-Deeley, the original 18-hole course was designed by Charles Hutchings with assistance from Percy Lucas. It was one of the first courses built to accommodate the longer Haskell ball. The club hosted the Open Championship in 1932, famously won by Gene Sarazen who debuted his new sand iron. The course suffered significant damage during both World Wars, being used as military training ground during the second. Following WWII, it was redeveloped into the current 27-hole layout by Guy Campbell (Sir Guy Campbell) and John Morrison, incorporating many of the original greens but with a focus on eliminating blind shots. The Himalayas nine, in particular, underwent a renovation by Mackenzie & Ebert (Martin Ebert), reopening in 2018 with a more modern links feel, including a new par-three fifth hole playing towards the sea. Prince's has a strong history of hosting significant amateur events, including the Curtis Cup and Amateur Championship, and has served as a Final Qualifying venue for The Open Championship from 2018 to 2022. The club is also scheduled to host the Walker Cup in 2030.
