Magdalene Fields Golf Club

Magdalene Fields Golf Club, perched on the rugged Northumberland coastline, is England's most northerly golf course. Established in 1903 with an original layout by Willie Park Jr. the course has evolved over the years, expanding from 9 to 18 holes in 1914, reverting to 9 in 1916 due to financial constraints, and finally settling into its current 18-hole configuration with later alterations in the mid-1990s. While often described as a parkland course with traditional links elements, its coastal location certainly brings the challenges and scenic rewards associated with seaside golf. Notable holes include the lengthy par-5 "Sea View" and the infamous par-4 16th, aptly named "The Destroyer," which demands a blind tee shot and has a reputation for ruining scorecards. The course offers stunning views of the North Sea, Holy Island, and the Scottish coastline, providing a picturesque backdrop to a round. While not a frequent host of major professional events, it offers a genuine test of golf in a memorable setting.
