Frinton Golf Club, established in 1895, is home to the Havers Course, a seaside layout with a rich history. Originally a 9-hole course designed by Tom Dunn, the present 18-hole configuration on the current site was laid out by Willie Park Jr. Jnr. in 1904, with subsequent refinements made by the esteemed architect Harry Colt. The course was later renamed in tribute to Arthur Havers, the 1923 Open Champion and a former club professional here. The course faced significant disruption during the Second World War when it was requisitioned and mined, but it was restored and reopened in 1947. Notably, Ryder Cup players practiced at Frinton in 1929. The Havers Course itself provides a classic links test, characterized by its fast, undulating greens that demand a deft putting stroke. Tidal ditches cross several fairways, requiring strategic shot placement, and the coastal breeze is an ever-present factor influencing play. While not overly long by contemporary standards, the course's clever design and natural features ensure an engaging round.
