Perched high above the town of Newtownards in County Down, Scrabo Golf Club offers a golfing experience defined by its dramatic setting and historical charm. Founded in 1907, the course initially featured nine holes before expanding to its current eighteen-hole layout, completed in 1971. Winding its way around the base of the iconic Scrabo Tower, the course presents a mix of links-style, gorse-bordered fairways and parkland characteristics. Accurate driving is paramount on this undulating layout, where stray shots can be penalised by the prevalent gorse. The course is renowned for its panoramic views across Strangford Lough and the Mourne Mountains, with glimpses of the Isle of Man and Scotland possible on a clear day. The opening hole is particularly notable, having been praised by the legendary Christy O'Connor Senior. While not a venue for Open Championship Qualifying, Scrabo Golf Club provides a memorable test of golf in a stunning Northern Ireland landscape.
