Temple Newsam Golf Club (Lord Irwin)

Temple Newsam Golf Club, located in Leeds, England, is a municipal golf facility with a rich history dating back to 1923. Originally featuring an 18-hole course designed by the renowned Alister MacKenzie, a second course was added in 1925 due to its popularity. The two courses were named the Lord Irwin and Lady Dorothy, after the previous owners of the Temple Newsam estate. Situated in undulating parkland with mature woodland, the courses, particularly the Lord Irwin, present a test of golf with strategically placed bunkers and natural hazards like trees and streams. While Temple Newsam has a notable history, including narrowly missing out on hosting the 1937 Ryder Cup and hosting exhibition matches with famous golfers like Gene Sarazen and Henry Cotton, it is not considered one of the top-ranked courses in the UK and has not been a regular Open Qualifying venue, although The Leeds Cup, which has been held at Temple Newsam, has a history intertwined with Open Championship venues.
