Temple Newsam Golf Club (Lady Dorothy)

Temple Newsam Golf Club, located in Leeds, England, is a municipal golf facility with a history dating back to 1923. The club was established following a campaign for public golf in Leeds, spearheaded by Alderman Alf Masser and golf correspondent A. G. Baker. Dr. Alister MacKenzie, the renowned architect behind Augusta National, designed the original courses at Temple Newsam, with the first, Lord Irwin, opening in 1923 and the second, Lady Dorothy, in 1925. The Lady Dorothy course, also known as the Bottom course, is set in undulating parkland. While slightly shorter than the Lord Irwin, it features demanding par 4s at the start and finish, and its par 5s are noted as being longer. The course, like its counterpart, is characterized by mature woodland and strategically placed bunkers. Temple Newsam was considered as a potential venue for the 1937 Ryder Cup and has hosted exhibition matches featuring notable golfers such as Gene Sarazen and Henry Cotton. The club offers a pro shop, changing rooms, and a restaurant.
