Tavistock Golf Club, established in 1890 on land owned by the Duke of Bedford, is situated on the western slopes of the Dartmoor National Park in England. The course, one of Devon's oldest, offers a moorland golfing experience. It has undergone several layout changes since its inception, moving gradually to its current position on the north and east side of Whitchurch Down. The present clubhouse, the fourth in the club's history, was originally built by the Duke of Bedford in 1915 and later purchased by the members. The course is known for its crisp moorland turf and fast greens, providing a links-like feel. While appearing deceptively simple with wide fairways and sweeping vistas, it presents a challenging test with strategically placed bunkers, natural hazards like gorse and bracken, and inhibiting doglegs on some longer holes. The thin soil ensures quick drainage, allowing for year-round play with seldom a need for temporary greens or tees. The club has a history of hosting various open competitions and events.
