Shaw Hill Hotel Golf Country Club (Shaw Hill Golf Course)

Shaw Hill Hotel Golf Country Club is set within the parkland of an eighteenth-century country house in Lancashire, England. The club was founded in 1923, with the eighteen-hole course, designed by Laurence Allamby, opening for play in the spring of 1925. Allamby, a young professional, had studied golf architecture under the renowned Dr. Alister Mackenzie. The par-72 parkland course, measuring 6373 yards from the white tees, presents a test for golfers of all abilities. The layout features strategically placed water hazards, including ponds and a meandering brook, alongside internal out of bounds and numerous trees. Dog-legs and well-bunkered greens require careful shot-making and course management. While demanding, the course does offer opportunities for longer hitters on the par fives and rewards accuracy on the shorter holes. The 18th hole, a challenging par 4, finishes with the backdrop of the impressive Georgian mansion.
