Sandy Lodge Golf Club
Inland Links Course in Northwood, England
Sandy Lodge Golf Club, established in 1910 and designed by Harry Vardon, offers a distinctive inland links experience in Hertfordshire, England. The course was specifically sited on sandy soil to ensure excellent drainage and year-round playability, a notable feature given the prevalence of clay in the surrounding London area. While initially having a more open, windswept character with significant sandhills and bunkers, some of these sandy areas were grassed over after the Second World War, and tree growth has altered the appearance somewhat. Despite these changes, the course maintains its links-like qualities with firm fairways and challenging, often sleeper-faced, bunkers. The par-71 course, measuring just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, presents a varied layout with five par 5s and six par 3s, including back-to-back short holes. Sandy Lodge has a history of hosting significant events, including the English Senior Women's Championship and serving as a Regional Open Qualifying venue between 2015 and 2019.
