Sandy Lodge Golf Club, located in Northwood, England, is an inland course often described as having links characteristics. Founded in 1910, the club was the vision of James Francis Markes, who sought a course with sandy soil for year-round play, a contrast to the often-muddy conditions of other courses in the London area. Six-time Open Champion Harry Vardon was enlisted to design the course, which originally featured large sandhills and bunkers to enhance its seaside appearance. While some sandy areas were grassed over after World War II, the course largely retains its original layout and linksy feel with firm fairways and true putting surfaces. The course is known for its variety, featuring a mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s. Sandy Lodge has a history of hosting prestigious events, including Regional Open Qualifying rounds between 2015 and 2019.
