Royal North Devon Golf Club

Royal North Devon Golf Club, established in 1864, holds the distinction of being the oldest golf course in England and the oldest links outside of Scotland. Often referred to as the 'St Andrews of the South', the club is steeped in history and has largely retained its natural links character. The course was originally laid out by Old Tom Morris and later refined by Herbert Fowler in 1908. Playing at Royal North Devon offers a truly traditional links experience, with fast-running fairways, challenging bunkers, and the ever-present test of the elements. The course is set on common land, shared with grazing sheep and horses, adding to its unique, timeless appeal. While not a current Open Championship venue, Royal North Devon has hosted significant amateur events, including the British Amateur Championship on three occasions. It was also considered as a potential host for the Open Championship in the early 20th century. The club's rich heritage is evident in its clubhouse, which houses a golf museum showcasing historic trophies and memorabilia.
